The Leongatha Rotary Club has opened a new fund raising enterprise based in the Old Fire Station at 2 Anderson Street, Leongatha.

USED FURNITURE

The club has been successfully selling used furniture via various on-line based 'buy, swap and sell' sites for the past two years. The opportunity arose last year to take up a lease on the old Country Fire Authority station and start an additional store based retail option. The Old Fire Station has two large spaces for the display and storage of used furniture. With a number of Rotarians in the club with retail sales experience, furniture is displayed to reflect the home environment. So, if you are looking for something different, moving into a new home or rental we can help set yourself up with quality used furniture.

SECONDHAND BOOKS

But it is not just used furniture. After a successful 'pop-up' bookshop at the 2021 Art Show in the near by Memorial Hall, it was decided to incorporate a secondhand bookshop in the new retail enterprise. There is a great range of fiction and non-fiction to browse through at very reasonable prices. The Book Shop is located in a large room seperate from the furniture retail space. There are, as you would expect a number of  comfortable lounge chairs relax in while you make you reading choices. You might even find that 'reading recliner' that you have been looking for.

DONATION OF FURNITURE

Leongatha Rotary Club welcomes the donation of furniture items, large and small. All donations are accepted only by mutual agreement. Contact our Furniture Donations Coordinator, Shirley on 0409 622 720 to discuss the items you have to donate.

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
The Leongatha Urban Fire Brigade celebrated it centenary in 2007 and there was an active fire station at the Anderson street site for over 100 years. The station buildings underwent a number of changes and rebuilds over the years. Many hundreds of men and women contributed to the Brigade over the years.

There was even a small residence  consisting of a kitchen and lounge and bedrooms out the back. A number of Resident Officers lived on site with their families up to 1995.

The Fire Brigade / Country Fire Authority moved to a new facility in Bair Street in 2015 and after being vacant for over 6 years the Old Fire Station now has a new life and a used furniture and book store.
